A beautiful home in the West Country used as a weekend retreat.  The garden was rather bland and the owner loved the idea of creating a Mediterranean style garden.  The pond was already in place with rather unsightly paving surrounding it and most annoyingly it was not centred to the floor to ceiling windows of the drawing room.

We found a couple of pallets of old bricks in a local reclamation yard and used them to try and centre the pond to other structures within the garden.  The gravel is South Cerney (6mm) and blends well with the old brick.  We did advise the client that the brick might not withstand cold winters, but he decided to go ahead anyhow.

We invested in some beautiful Ilex crenata balls and mature standards.  We chose Ilex rather than Box as we had to remove a badly infected box hedge.  The Cypressus were already in situ and add to that Mediterranean look.

The key to this garden is simplicity.
